Meet our 2023 Wacky Pet Names nominees

Written by By Nationwide | May 3, 2023 5:35:51 PM

Every pet is unique in their own way—ask any pet parent and they’ll tell you! But how do you tell the world exactly what makes your furry, feathery or scaly friend so special? One popular way is choosing a wacky pet name.

We combed through nearly a quarter of a million new pets who enrolled with Nationwide this year to select the kookiest canine, funkiest feline and nuttiest exotic pet names for our Wacky Pet Name celebration.

Who will unseat last year’s most paw-pular wacky names, Dr. Potato Head and Pickles McButterpants the Muffin Slayer? You can help us decide!

Meet our dog nominees

Barkimedes, a mixed breed dog from Georgia who is deeply engaged in the study of scents.

Boolaloobalala, a mixed breed dog from Florida who comes running whenever whipped cream is being served.

Captain Good Boy, a mixed breed dog (maybe part bunny?) from Colorado who can leap taller than his human’s height.

Doc Pawlliday, an Australian shepherd from Oklahoma who is always in one of three places: napping, by his person or face-first in the toy box.

Everybody Loves Raymond Orr Else, an Akita from Ohio who was named using a wacky assortment of athletes and pop culture.

Maple Bacon on a Biscuit, a Floridian mixed breed dog who's missing both eyes, but navigates the world fearlessly, bringing joy to nursing homes as a therapy dog.

Scooby Moo, a mixed breed dog from Jersey who gets great joy from a toy in his mouth and a big doggy smile on his face.

Sir Arthur Cowvin Moo Moo the Great, a mixed breed dog from Philly who is obsessed with ice.

The Dude LeBowWowSki, a Cali mixed breed dog who knows the importance of a good rug (and will only play on one).

Whiskey Tango Furball, an Aussie shepherd from Virginia who loves to steal anything and everything (and jet off with it).

Meet our cat nominees

Inigo Meowtoya, a shorthair cat from Texas who loves to make his presence known—at top volume.

Moira Rose McMurderpants Queen of Hearts, a longhair cat from Oregon who keeps everyone in the house in order.

Prison Mike, an Abyssinian from Minnesota who loves to do a little butt scoot when turning around on the windowsill.

Sir Catrick Stewart, a longhair cat from Missouri who does his fair share of zoomies.

Sir Woodrow Agustdus Scuttlebooty the Third, Esquire, an American shorthair from South Carolina who is a parkour kitty.

Spicy Beef Purrito, a mixed longhair from the Empire State who loves to welcome people at the front door.

Meet our exotic pet nominees

Audrey Hopbun, a rabbit from California who has a dispute with three small owl statues.

Birdie Sanders, a parakeet from New Jersey who loves to talk anyone—or anything—that will listen (including the wooden jungle gym).

Me'Shell, a tortoise and grumpy little guy from Illinois who loves to dig until he’s completely buried in the dirt.

MooMoo Mozzarella, a guinea pig from Georgia whose name is very dairy with an Italian twist.

Piggy Smalls, a pot-belly pig from Florida who travels to the neighbor’s house solo to make friends.

Rabbit Downey Jr., a rabbit from North Carolina who is a daredevil, just like his namesake's superhero alter ego.

Spicy Queso, a ferret and “chaos land shark” from New York whose mischievous nature only adds to his spiciness.

Will Ferret, a ferret from Virginia who is a super dooker (yes, that’s a real sound that ferrets make).
