Give your pet a special treat with these delightfully delicious peanut butter pumpkin dog biscuits.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin (100% pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling)
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter*
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Optional: Fun cookie cutters for added seasonal delight!
*Xylitol Warning! Before mixing the peanut butter into the batter, make sure to read the ingredients label on the peanut butter jar. Many nut butters are now using xylitol as a sugar substitute. Xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs.
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or nonstick baking mats.
- Whisk together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Add water as needed to help make the dough workable, but the dough should be dry and stiff.
- Sprinkle some wheat flour on a pastry board or stone countertop to prevent your dough from sticking to the surface. Mix fully using your hands, then roll the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick log.
- Using a pastry or butter knife, cut into the dough into 1/2-inch pieces. You can also use decorative cookie cutters by rolling the dough flat with a rolling pin.
- Bake in preheated oven until hard, about 40 minutes, then let the cookies fully cool.
- Check the density of the cookies. Dog cookies need to be hard and crunchy, so they don’t get stuck in teeth. Press in the center with a finger—if there’s no squish, they’re ready.
Always consult with your veterinarian before changing your pet’s diet.
