One of the best parts of the holiday season is the snacks. Sweets and treats are such an important part of our wintertime celebrations, but most human foods are unhealthy (or downright toxic) for pets. Fortunately, you can get your pet in on the fun with a little easy baking.
Here are a few of our favorite festive and healthy holiday pet recipes, courtesy of “Paws & Brunch,” a culinary canine cookbook by Melinda Kirk Stenger.
Festive holiday fur-tata
A brunch favorite reimagined for your pet.
- Prep time: 10 minutes
- Cook time: 20-25 minutes
- Makes 8 servings
- You will need: Medium bowl and mini pie pan
Ingredients
- 4 eggs
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 1/4 cup low-fat mozzarella shredded cheese (EXCLUDE CHEESE FOR CATS)
- 4 asparagus spears
Instructions
- Preheat oven 350º F.
- Grease mini pie pan (or muffin tins).
- In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs.
- Add water, turmeric, & cheese.
- In a pot with steamer, steam the asparagus.
- Finely chop asparagus tips & add to bowl.
- Pour mixture into pan.
- Cook for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Remove from oven, cool
For pups, cut fur-tata into 8 slices and for cats, dice fur-tata into small cubes. Place treats in an airtight container and store in refrigerator.

Cozy sweet pup-tato crisp
A healthy take on a comfort food classic that dogs absolutely love.
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 20 minutes
- Makes 6 servings
- You will need: Medium bowl, vegetable grater, cookie sheet and parchment paper
Ingredients
- 2 cups sweet potatoes
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup brown rice flour
- 1 Tbs shredded cheddar cheese (EXCLUDE FOR CATS)
- 1/8 tsp oregano
- 1/2 Tbs oil*
Topper - Optional
- 1 large hard boiled egg
- 6 spinach leaves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425º F.
- In a medium bowl combine all ingredients until well blended.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- For dogs, create patties commensurate to the size of your pooch, for cats roll into small balls.
- Place the tray with the crisps on top shelf in oven for 20 minutes or until crispy looking.
- Remove from oven & let cool.
- Top each crisp with 1 spinach leaf & a slice of hard-boiled egg & serve
Place treats in an airtight container and store in refrigerator.
