24/7 video chat with pet health experts

VetHelpline® is available 24/7 to field pet health questions from Nationwide® pet insurance members

Your cat just isn’t acting right. Your dog ate something that might be toxic. Your parrot is growing a new feather—but, suddenly, it’s bleeding. What should you do?

Pet parents tend to have numerous questions—both big and small—about caring for their pets. When your pet is protected by Nationwide, you don’t have to wonder, worry or wait to be seen. Instead, you can get expert advice from a veterinary professional anytime, all at no added cost. Here’s how.

Introducing: VetHelpline®

Powered by FirstVet, the VetHelpline app offers unlimited, no-cost access to video consultations with certified veterinary experts to Nationwide pet insurance members.

Download the app on your smartphone to access 24/7 guidance on emergency triage, continued care or everyday questions about health and nutrition, all without the stress of travel. No pet carrier, no long waits, no worries. In an emergency, pet parents can get real-time guidance to help power their decision making.

All you need is the email, ZIP code and phone number from your Nationwide pet health insurance policy to get started. You’ll soon know if you have a veterinary emergency on your hands or—best of all—if there’s nothing to worry about.

VetHelpine is valuable for more than just unexpected emergencies. Bringing your pet to the veterinarian isn’t always an easy task—there are numerous very good reasons why someone may not be able to immediately get to a consultation. Some pet parents live far from their local practice, while others have pets who get really upset by the experience. Many other pet parents have family obligations or busy schedules that make finding timely appointments difficult, especially in parts of the country where there simply aren’t enough veterinarians available and long wait times for appointments are common.

However, getting qualified answers to pressing pet health questions—or advice on whether to bring a pet in for more urgent care—is no less important for these pet families. It’s good news that there’s a new tool to help pet parents get the care their pets need on their own terms.
