Easter recipes for dogs and cats

Celebrate Easter with these pet-friendly treats

Between bunny-themed baskets, Sunday picnics and traditional dinner spreads, Easter is a feasting holiday for the whole family. While many of the things we love about Easter can be unhealthy for pets—some are outright dangerous, in fact—these fun DIY snacks are a great way to include your pets in the holiday celebration.

Always consult with your veterinarian introducing new food to your pet’s diet.

Easter recipes for cats

Chicken and carrot bites

Ingredients:


  • 1/2 cup cooked chicken (shredded)
  • 1/4 cup grated carrots
  • 1/4 cup oat flour
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Mix all ingredients in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into bite-sized balls.
  4. Place the balls on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until they are firm.
  5. Allow treats to cool before giving them to your cat.

Tuna Easter treats for cats

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of tuna in water (drained)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • Water (as needed)
  • Easter-themed (or any shape) cookie cutter

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Blend the tuna until smooth.
  3. In a bowl, combine the blended tuna, egg and flour.
  4. Add water as needed to form a dough.
  5. Roll out the dough and cut it into small shapes (you can use an Easter-themed cookie cutter).
  6. Place the treats on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until they are firm.
  7. Let the treats cool before serving them to your cat.

Easter recipes for dogs

Dog-friendly Easter eggs

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (make sure it's xylitol-free)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup carob chips (optional)
  • Egg-shaped (or any shape) silicone mold

Directions:

  1. Mix the Greek yogurt, peanut butter and honey in a bowl until well combined.
  2. If using carob chips, melt them and drizzle over the mixture.
  3. Pout the mixture into silicone egg molds.
  4. Freeze for at least 2 hours or until solid.
  5. Pop the treats out of the molds and let your pup enjoy!

Carrot cake for dogs

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup grated carrots
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour and baking soda.
  3. Add the vegetable oil, applesauce, grated carrots and egg.
  4. Mix until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased cake pan.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool before serving it to your dog.
